I am writing a letter on behalf of Megan Ostrowski who is currently completing her Bachelor of Science degree in the Industrial Design program at Western Washington University. She is well prepared and qualified to begin her career as a practicing industrial designer.
Megan has been an outstanding student academically and technically proficient in many of the classical industrial design skills which include design research, freehand and digital sketching, model-making, 3D printing, various CAD programs, and creative problem solving. In addition to her Industrial Design degree, she has a Minor in UX Design and has used tools such as Figma in her projects. She is also very comfortable in the shop creating models and working with a variety of prototyping materials.
Megan has developed a disciplined design process that she has employed consistently in her design work. Her attention to detail has been well honed and typically has a sound rationale for every design detail she proposes. One of Megan’s strongest attributes is her strong work ethic, evidenced by being the first one in the studio each morning which gives her time carry out her well thought out design solutions and professionally executed design work. She had a successful internship at the Fluke Corporation last summer and fit in well with her design team.
As a person, Megan is passionate about all things related to design (technology, fabrication, form development, etc.) and continually pushes the boundaries in our field. She is extremely reliable, completes her assignments on time, and participates fully in the studio environment. Megan is also well respected by her peers as well as faculty and has a great relationship with her classmates in and outside the studio setting.
This year, Megan has contributed her skills as a teaching assistant/shop technician for the Industrial Design program. She has repaired and maintained equipment in our shop, mentored students, and set up a temporary sewing studio with over a dozen machines for the annual sophomore soft goods project. Her latest contribution was to learn the CNC Shop Bot router software and helped fabricate 14 pedestals from pre-finished birch plywood for displaying student projects at our annual shows.
I am very confident in Megan’s skills as an industrial designer and strongly recommend her to the professional design world.
Sincerely,
Professor Arunas P. Oslapas,
